The Dockside Market in Downtown San Diego has sparked renewed interest in San Diego’s local fishing economy. A study commissioned by the Port of San Diego and funded by the Coastal Conservancy aiming to revitalize the fishing industry found that direct marketing and improvements in fishing infrastructure were the two most important keys to revitalization. Waterfront fishing industries provide over 11,000 direct local jobs.
With the introduction of the Fisherman’s Market, an open market where local fishermen and aquaculturists can directly sell their own seafood, Harbor Light @ Seaport intends to create a forum for local fisherman, supporting the local fishing industry and helping to promote sustainable fishing.
